TSA consent to screen cargo

As of February, 2010, administered by Transportation Security Administration, cargo submitted to the passenger airlines will be subjected to 100% full screening.  It also means that cargo will need to be tendered in a specific way to the carriers which I have listed below:

• Cargo must be tendered loose
• Individual pieces must not be wrapped/banded to a pallet
• All individual pieces must be marked and labelled
• Also to be noted is that cargo tendered on skids wrapped in clear plastic will be broken down

TSA requires shippers to submit a consent form which your freight forwarder or agent can provide to you. Completion of the consent form gives permission for screening, thus allowing shippers to utilise passenger planes for the transportation of goods. Consent to screen can be in the form of a individual declaration on shipping documents or in a blanket declaration.
